Epson printed once and then stopped — power-cycle first
Symptom: one receipt printed, then nothing. The app says "Turn the printer off and on again, then try again." The printer looks healthy — ready light on, paper in, self-test prints from the panel.
Power-cycle it first
Unplug the printer, count to ten, plug it back in and wait for the ready light. Then print a test page.
Do this before changing any setting. It is the fastest way to tell a stuck printer from a misconfigured one, and it fixes the case below outright.
Why it happens
An Epson can accept a job it has no intention of printing — most often one that arrived on a channel the printer is set to block. It doesn't reject it; it holds it. And while it holds one job, it won't print anything from any channel: not the next receipt, not the app's test page. The hold clears itself after a few minutes, or immediately when the printer restarts.
That's why a printer can look fine and behave as though it's dead, and why the same printer starts working again while you're still investigating.
If it comes back
A power cycle treats the symptom. If it keeps happening, something is still sending jobs down a blocked channel:
- Check Secure Printing — the usual cause on printers bought since mid-2025.
- Check Server Direct Print if the printer's web page works but nothing prints.
Scanning for printers can trigger the hold too, so a printer that jams shortly after you tap Add printer is showing the same problem.
